JASNA – Annual General Meeting. Kansas City, MO. September 2018. *

The Jane Austen Society of North America holds an annual conference called the annual general meeting or AGM. The afternoon tea was pretty blah and really does deserve the 1 star rating. We didn’t seem to have enough food at the table and it was a bear to get additional cups of tea. At least there was water on the table. I suppose they had so many of us in the room…probably more than 300, it’s what we get at a hotel. But I was looking forward to something a bit more lovely, delicious and elegant for my $65 (yikes!). The fashion show of Regency era reproductions was very nice. To see pattens in use – gosh – forget ever seeing me in them! I’d just let my lovely shoes get all mucky. I included one photo of the $30 Cheese Tour of Jane Austen’s England, because it was pretty darn awesome.

The Spelling Teas. An afternoon tea party at an adult spelling bee? Why not? Mallow Run Winery. Bargersville, IN. September 2018. *****

It’s probably wrong to give your personally prepared afternoon tea a 5 star rating. But golly, it was a fun night out. The Johnson County Public Library system hosts an annual adult spelling bee contest for raising awareness of adult literacy in the county. It’s a get-dressed-up-as-a-theme kind of thing and try to spell impossible words! Luckily, I have smarty-pants friends like Denise and Sarah who can spell well! Sausage rolls, curried chicken salad sandwiches, scones, eclairs and brownies were on our menu and I made enough to share with other contestants and audience members! What a fun time! Sarah, whose side hustle is a Steeped Tea business, provided some delicious white tea to compliment our meal.

JASNA – Jane Austen Festival Four-Course Afternoon Tea. Louisville, KY. July 2018. *****

Like the years before, this delightful afternoon tea is a highlight of my year and a sweet treat for my birthday month (thank you Nick!). We always sit with strangers who easily fall into conversations of all sorts as we sip the hour of tea away. This year, the scones were yummy, sandwiches spot-on and the dessert was served as your choice of a piece of cake or bread puddingy type treat. I tried a new tea – Mrs. Croft, which was good, but I was glad to switch back to my Bingley’s tea standby – Marianne’s Wild Abandon! I always pick up a box or two from the Shoppes of Meryton to take home with me. The event’s setting at historic Locust Grove is perfect for a Kentucky version of a Regency era afternoon…

Tea at 10,000 ft…Turkish Airlines serves wonderful tea & treats in business class! April 2018. *****

I like sugar with my tea. On Turkish Airlines, you’re guaranteed to be given sugar whenever you order tea. I like that. I had wonderful Turkish black tea several times on our flight to and from Berlin. Nick loved the “digest ease tea,” a fennel, anise and caraway mixture and thought it tasted wonderful. The airport lounge in Istanbul also served wonderful tea. Well done to Turkish Airlines. I hope we find the steal of a deal we had on these tix for another flight on Turkish Airlines!!

Downton Abbey Dinner #2. Tina’s Traditional Tea Room. Columbus, IN. January 2018. ***

Pretty much the same event as I attended in Carmel, IN in 2017. Same menu. Tina hosted like she did the year before, and her stories of her grandmother being a scullery maid was a nice touch – and her showing her grandmother’s ‘evening out’ dress was also lovely again to see. Would I do this event again? Maybe…I do love me some Downton Abbey!

The Dove’s Nest. Calgary, Alberta, Canada. December 2017. ****

Although Nick didn’t order the afternoon tea tray with me, he helped me finish off mine — which included tasty sandwiches, a divine scone and a few sweet treats! This is in the suburbs of Calgary and we were thankful for the rental car. Service was nice – the only thing I thought could use some improvement was tea selection. Too many froo-froo flavored tea choices. But still delicious and I’d go back again someday.

JASNA – Jane Austen Festival. Louisville, KY. July 2017. *****

Much like the festival in earlier years, we celebrated my 45th birthday at the Jane Austen Festival in Louisville. Much to my heart’s delight. They have served my favorite tea of all time “Marianne’s Wild Abandon” by Bingley Teas. You *never* go wrong with a cup of this tea!

Part of the fun is sitting with two strangers who dearly love Jane Austen as much as you do!
